Guide to Shipping

At CAC, we want to give you as much information as possible to ensure that you have a positive and safe experience getting your coins graded. Below are some guidelines we highly recommend following to ensure your package is shipped to CAC securely.

What Goes in the Box #

Coins

Depending on the type of coin(s) you are submitting, your packing method will be slightly different. Please review our requirements and recommendations below.

  • Raw coins: Raw coins are coins not in a sealed plastic holder from another grading service. Raw coins must be submitted to us in 2.5″ x 2.5″ non-PVC flips. Each flip should contain only one coin and be folded to ensure nothing falls out and gets damaged in transit. Please do not staple, excessively tape, or send coins in cardboard holders. Removing coins from these holders is dangerous and may result in unnecessary damage or delays in processing the submission.
  • Coins in plastic holders: When submitting coins in sealed plastic holders from other grading services (such as for Crossover or Reconsideration services), the holders should be in good condition. Unless submitting a damaged CACG holder for Reholder, submissions with damaged holders may result in delays.

Submissions

Once each coin is properly prepared, please put them in the order they are listed on the submission form; this will help us receive the coins efficiently and avoid delays in processing. Once the coins are in order, we recommend wrapping the submission form around them and putting a rubber band around the whole group. If you are sending multiple submissions in a single package, please repeat this process for each submission.

Tracking

Please be sure to keep the tracking number for your package. This tracking number can be entered in the search bar at the top of the website to show that the package has arrived at our office. If we have received your package, the tracking number will display the date and time at which it was signed for by CAC during the delivery. Please note that there can be a window of 1 to 7 business days before the submissions are entered into our database as “Received”; you can see this when you are logged into your account.

Box, Label & Other Packing Materials #

Box

Use a sturdy, high-quality box to ensure that the package can withstand the rigors of shipping. Most carriers will provide suitable boxes; we do not recommend reusing shipping boxes.

Packing Materials

Be sure to protect your coins with sufficient bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or other cushioning materials to protect the contents from bumps and shocks during transit. We utilize a box-in-box shipping method which adds an additional layer of protection for your coins; this means your coins go into a box with sufficient internal packing material, and then that box is sealed and put into a larger box that is stuffed with more cushioning material to keep everything in place. You don’t have to go this far, but if you have coin boxes from us or other grading services, this adds a healthy layer of protection.

Label

Clearly label the package with CAC’s shipping address as well as your return address. Be sure to include your contact information in case the package needs to be returned or there are any issues with delivery. It is also important that you do not label the package with any notes or instructions that indicate what is inside it (such as, “Coins Inside” or “Valuable! Handle with care”). You’re welcome to use “Shipping” as the first name and “Department” as the last name for the contact.

Tape

Some boxes come with self-stick closures, but we strongly recommend using strapping tape to ensure the safety of your package. You don’t have to make the box look like a mummy, but securely taping all the seams will help to keep its contents safe.

Please note that we only accept packages that are intact, sealed, and show no signs of tampering. If a package is sent in an unapproved package type, it is likely to be rejected and returned to you unprocessed. We recommend not reusing broken boxes or excessively used boxes as it can be hard to tell if it has been tampered with.

Carriers & Insurance #

Shipping Carriers

We only accept packages via USPS, UPS, or FedEx. If a package is sent using another service, CAC Grading is not responsible for rejected packages. We also recommend using a shipping method that provides tracking information so you can monitor the progress of the package during transit.

Shipping Insurance

CAC only insures your coins after they have been received and on return shipment if using CAC shipping. The cost to insure a package sent to us is the submitter’s responsibility, and we strongly recommend insuring your shipment to us for the full value of its contents. There is a cost for this, but the peace of mind is priceless; you don’t want to have to worry about what happens in the situation where your package is lost, damaged, or stolen during transit.
