Our new policy is as follows:
Coins graded in Virginia Beach will be considered for the “+” Designation EVEN IF they were stickered during the Legacy-1 period November 2007-June 5th, 2023. So, all coins that qualify for the “Legacy” designation, whether they earned “+” designations from PCGS/NGC or not, WILL BE considered for the “+” designation in the new CAC Grading holder.
Gold-stickered coins will also be eligible with no ceiling on the grade in Virginia. However, there will be no distinction made between the Legacy designation on a CAC-Graded coin that previously had a green sticker and one that had a gold sticker. Having a gold-legacy sticker designation creates the problem of needing to know the previous grade, since the CACG holder will not match the grade on the gold-stickered holder and will not always be 1 grade lower. Please see the graphic below.
Stickered Grade | New CAC Crossover Grade | Guaranteed to Cross | Legacy |
65 | 65 | YES | YES |
65 | 65+ | NO | YES |
65 | 66 | NO | NO |
65+ | 65 | YES | YES |
65+ | 65+ | NO | YES |
65+ | 66 | NO | NO |
Some takeaways and stipulations:
- The new policy guarantees that a coin stickered November 2007-June 5, 2023 will get the legacy designation so long as the numerical grade does not change.
- With the old policy, there was a possibility that a stickered coin with a + could be submitted to CACG and not qualify for a + nor a legacy designation, and many saw that as unfair. With the new policy, all stickered coins will be guaranteed the legacy designation if they stay in the same numerical grade.
- For a coin to qualify for a Legacy crossover, it must have the original cert number the coin was submitted to CAC Stickering with. If a coin is cracked out, reholdered with a new cert number, or otherwise changed we will not be able to honor its Legacy status.
- If a coin stickered outside the Legacy window of November 2007-June 5th and is submitted for grading, it will still be eligible to cross but will not receive the Legacy designation.
