DescriptionFirst year of issue for the Indian Cent Series, which was produced from a composite of copper and nickel. Very popular one-year type coin as a shield was added to the reverse in the following year. Extremely common except for the gem grades that are scarce. The 1859 normally comes with a strong strike and some nice color and luster.
