The 1924-S Buffalo nickel is a very scarce issue with a mintage of only 1,437,000 pieces and a few thousand survivors across all grades. The 1924-S is regarded as a semi-key in circulated grades and a rarity in uncirculated and particularly Gem levels. There are only a handful of MS66 specimens across both PCGS and NGC slabs, and when any of those pieces are offered for sale, registry set collectors snap them up in short order.
