The 1946-D has the lowest mintage and is the scarcest circulated coin in the short set. Yet only the 1943 is more common in Mint State grades. The 1946-D is one of the stranger issues in all of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar Series. Further proof of this oddity is that it is extremely common through MS65; after which is becomes very scarce. High-quality gems are not easy to locate. Strike and luster are good and the issue is susceptible to toning.
