CAC approved and CACG encapsulated coins fared well in public sales during the month of June 2025. Here are fourteen examples, which were selected from a larger number of results that could have been listed.
1836 Classic Head $5 Gold – CAC MS63

The public offering of the month was the sale by GreatCollections on June 29 of a CACG graded MS63 1836 $5 gold coin for $18,553.70. This was a ‘big price’ for an MS63 grade type coin in the series of Classic Head half eagles ($5 gold pieces).
On Oct. 13, 2024, GreatCollections sold an NGC graded MS63 1836 $5 gold coin, without a CAC sticker, for $10,725. On July 14, 2024, GreatCollections sold a PCGS graded MS63 1834 ‘Plain 4’ $5 gold coin, without a CAC sticker, for $12,250.69. The Classic Head 1834 ‘Plain 4’ is about equal in value to the 1836 $5 gold coin.
According to the Greysheet, market values for 1836 or 1834 ‘Plain 4’ $5 gold coins were 15% higher in June 2025 than they were from June to December 2024. If so, this 15% increase would account for only a minority part of the difference between $18,553.70 and $10,725 or the difference between $18,553.70 and $12,250.69. The cited CACG graded MS63 1836 $5 coin brought a substantial premium.

Market values for these may have been 20% higher in June 2025 than they were in October 2023, but such a difference in market values would not account for most of the difference in price between $1,050 and $2,253.90. A CACG graded coin brought more than twice as much as a non-CAC, PCGS graded AU55 1846 dollar.
