The 1879/8 is the major overdate variety in the Proof Shield Nickel Series. Interestingly enough, a tripled date also exists for this year. Scarce in all grades and becoming rare as a high-end gem. Gradually tougher with cameo surfaces as well as deep cameo which are very rare. Not much of an increase in value from the regular 1879.
